Once the horse is soft and can do flexions from left to right standing still, it's time to step it up to doing it with forward motion. When working the shoulders, it's important to be able to pick up each shoulders individually while walking and transition from one to the other without any loss in forward motion or any miss in the beat of the walk. The result will be a horse walking with an extended stride and balance body energy. One obtained, a lead departure for example will be much easier for the horse to execute.
