Hi Jonathan— really enjoying your video series. I watched the bracing ones several times but my colt won’t put any energy into his backup. Slow footed and makes me pull every stride and wants to elevate his neck which seems to get him stuck when he does. If I put on more pressure at this point he will either comply and back nicely (so I think he knows what I’m asking!) for several strides or get angry and threaten to rear. He’s so soft and flexible going forward and I can do most of your suppleness drills without an issue but i can’t seem to communicate the same to him going backwards. Any advice Would be appreciated!
Hi Erica
If it helps. Don’t ask too much. If your colt is backing Nicely for a few strides , quit well ahead before he threatens to do something against your wishes. Build up the strides slowly if he finds it harder to do than other drills. Reward Often and give him a reason to seek the reward when backing. Hope this helps my friend
